New Mexico Rattler

This 9x12 in. drawing was completed using copic markers, pen, and colored pencil. I drew this piece based on a reference photo I took while visiting the Rattlesnake Museum in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The snakes were very active at the time of day we went, and I wanted to capture their beautiful, slithery essence.

I love the way the values make the snake pop out against the background even though they are very similar colors. I find this piece to be simple and effective.
