Ultramarine

This is the largest piece I have ever made--it's three feet tall and two feet wide (and I'm used to working in 8x10 inches at the biggest), but I'm so happy with the results. This was a commissioned piece where I was given free reign to do whatever I desired, so I decided to do something familiar but still find a way to push myself.

What that ended up meaning was doing a monochromatic portrait, using only ultramarine blue and white acrylic paint. I wanted something serene and comforting. But I also wanted something that popped and really represented me and what I like, so of course I had to include gold leaf embellishment as well. I find it simple yet effective, and definitely my proudest achievement of 2023.
